Grocery chain magnate Fred Meijer dies: If you live in the midwest, particularly Michigan, you know Meijer. It’s the chain that invented the Wal-Mart model before Sam Walton even knew what the Wal-Mart model was. (Meijer is also way better, by the way.) Anyway, Mr. Meijer died Friday night after suffering a stroke. He was 91 years old. EDIT: Isn’t it strange that the guy who designed the very idea of the big-box store died on Black Friday? It’s fitting, right?
